Some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Response Squad (SARS) in Osun state on Friday dispersed some youths protesting an end to their activities.
The youths had stormed Osogbo to demonstrate against brutality and extortion by SARS and called for its scrap.
While the peaceful protest was ongoing, the operatives of Anti-Robbery Response Squad stationed at Olaiya junction allegedly shoot sporadically in the air to disperse the protesting youths.
The feasibly angry operatives seized the protesters’ placards and allegedly arrested two of them.

During the melee, some of the protesters who were riding motorcycles fled the scene immediately but two were picked by the policemen.
The protesters regrouped and thronged the base of the police where their Armed Personnel Carrier vehicle was stationed and demanded for the release of their colleagues.
Seeing the large number of the angry protesters that besieged thier base, the operatives bowed to pressure and immediately released the two arrested protesters.
Speaking, one of the protesters confirmed that the two arrested were later released after they confronted the operatives.
“They attacked us. They arrested two of us and we ensured that they were released,” the youth said.

The protesters are seeking total scrap of the FSARS unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
They had earlier thronged popular Olaiya junction before they proceeded to Osun State Government Secretariat and State House of Assembly.
