
Scores dead, cars burnt in Osun multiple accidents

Scores of drivers and passengers have died in multiple accidents that occurred along the Ilesa-Akure Highway, Osun State on Monday.
It was gathered that the accident occurred around 11:35 am at Erin-Ijesa, a town in the Oriade Local Government Area when a diesel-laden tanker spilled its content on the highway, causing explosions that affected several vehicles.

An eyewitness account said that the tanker fell on the move and caught fire immediately.
According to him: “Many vehicles are affected here and it has even caused gridlock on the road. The officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps are on ground, diverting motorists to ply Ipetu Ijesa town to ease the traffic.

“Many people are burnt to death while some sustained severe burns. I don’t know the number of those that are affected now. The situation is very terrible.”
News Boom gathered that other vehicles got trapped as the fire raged.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Mrs Adijat Basiri confimed the accidents.
According to Basiri, nine casualties were recorded while one person has been hospitalized.

He said, “Our men responded to a distress call this morning of a collision between two trailers at ilesa akure express road Erin ijesha osun state resulting in fire outbreak.

“9 casualties were recorded with one receiving treatment in the hospital.The fire involved 9 vehicles and 2 lorries.”
