The Nigerian Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has said the only way out of poverty and unemployment in the country is for citizens to identify the challenges confronting the nation and make opportunities out of them.
Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun state made this known while granting an interview at Timsed 94.1fm Ijebu Jesa on Friday. News Boom monitored the interview streamed live on the Facebook page of the radio station.
According to the minister, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has done “more than expected to promoting engagements of youths,” adding that all unemployed Nigerians cannot have white collar job.
While admitting that there are challenges confronting the nation, the minister charged Nigerians to look inwards and create opportunities for jobs.
He stressed that there is a limit to the job the government can create and maintained that Nigerians, especially youths should seek to know the challenges the country faces and thus extract opportunities from them.
Aregbesola said “the Federal Government has done more than expected in promoting engagements of youths. The challenge we have is rooted in the type of education we have which is a fall out from colonial experience. We must live with the challenges we have now.
“If you think that everybody will have white collar job as the western colonial education that is everywhere promises, then we are not sincere with ourselves. For as along as human beings exist, there must be new jobs to meet their needs.
“Human existence naturally create opportunities for job. To meet the full challenges of our nation and our people is a task our youths can’t even meet. To meet the food challenges of our nation, It’s beyond the capacity of capable youths.
“Don’t see those things as mere press rehotircs. Take up something in which you can eke out a living with. There is a limit to what Government in Nigeria can employ. So, identification, seeking to know what the challenges are and extracting opportunities from these challenges is the way out of poverty and unemployment.”
He urged youths to improve their skills in order to enjoy support from Government.
