Catholic, Muslim media practitioners hold workshop on peace building, religious tolerance

In a bid to build peace and strengthen religious tolerance in the country,  the Catholic Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (CAMPAN) and Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) have organised a one-day workshop.
The workshop held at Veritas University Abuja on Thursday December 3, 2020.
A paper was presented by Otunba Jide Fadugba Pinheiro on behalf of Rev. Fr ( Dr) Mike Umoh , the Director of Social Communications at the CSN, Abuja.
Also, another paper was presented by Aisha Umar Yusuf.

Present at the workshop included Abdur Rahman  Balogun, Chairman of Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria;  Rev Yakubu Pam,  the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian  Christian Pilgrims  Commission and Mr Patrick Osu, CAMPAN national  president.
Prof Armstrong Idachaba, Acting DG of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission was also in attendance.
In her paper entitled: “Let’s reclaim our humanity,” Yusuf urged Journalists to give equal importance and attention to issues affecting all religions and report all sides.
She said,” if we want to foster peace and religious tolerance amongst us, one of the roles the media has to play is to give equal importance to issues that affect all of us. This is what will lead to adequate understanding of our inter-ethnic and multi-religious matters, as well as prevent the kind of friction that leads to crisis and bloodshed.”
Reacting, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Oyo, Most Rev Emmanuel Badejo commended all the organisers and participants of the workshop.
The Prelate said that “bridge-building programmed like this can only help Nigeria and our world.”
