Unemployment: Take up opportunities created by govt, Osun Commissioner charges youth

Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Osun State, Mr. Yemi Lawal has admonished youth to strive to be creative by taking up various opportunities provided by the state government which can strategically make them stand on their feet and contribute to the economic growth and stability.
Mr. Lawal who stated this on Saturday at the Heritage Hotel, Osogbo during the Maiden Rotary Youth Summit organized by the Rotary International District 9125 noted that the unemployment gap in the state can easily be bridged if the youth key into the government’s entrepreneurial policies and programs.
“As youth, the future of this country is in our hands and it is high time we took up the challenges headlong to become nation builders. This is why we must leverage on the various employability platforms created by the government which are aimed at promoting social entrepreneurship among unemployed youths and artisans.”
Highlighting efforts of the present administration towards empowering the youth, the Commissioner revealed that thousands of Osun youth have benefitted from the federal government loans and other social investment fund, particularly, the disbursement of Five Hundred Thousand Naira loan (#500,000), facilitated by the State Government in collaboration with the Federal Government to over 3,000 beneficiaries.
He urged all beneficiaries to make judicious and prudent use of the fund by investing it on lucrative enterprises that will bring return on investment.
Several youths who attended the summit appreciated Mr. Lawal for identifying with them and assured the state government of their support at all time. They similarly urged the Commissioner to use his good office to facilitate more investment fund and soft loan that can easily be accessed by youth to embark on small and medium scale enterprises that can fetch them the means of livelihood.
Highpoint of the program was the presentation of Rotary Club’s ambassadorial honour to Mr. Lawal as conducted by Chairman of the program, Rotarian (Mrs.) Jumoke Bamigboye.
