Court remands three for robbing motorists on expressway in Osun

An Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court in Osun State on Wednesday, remanded three men over alleged armed robbery.
The accused persons are: Isah Lawal, aged 28; Moses Keffi, 38, and 43 year old Odeyemi Oluwafemi.
The Prosecutor, ASP Joseph Adebayo, told the court that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit a felony to wit armed robbery.
He said the trio commited the offence on December 31, 2020 around 3:00 am at Osu/Ile-Ife Express way, Ile-Ife.
Adebayo said that the defendants armed themselves with guns and other dangerous weapons and robbed one Seyinde Egbeyemi of one Toyota Previa car with Reg. No: FGB 406 XA valued N1.370,000.
He added that other items such as one 180 cartons of frozen turkey, valued N3.6 million; one Tecno mobile phone valued N30,000 and cash sum of N25,000 were robbed.
According to him, the defendants armed themselves with guns and other dangerous weapons and robbed one Olawumi Gbenga of one Itel mobile phone valued N5,000 and cash sum of N16,000.
The Prosecutor stated further that the defendants also armed themselves with guns and other dangerous weapons to rob one Adunoye Ismail of two mobile phones valued N60,000 and cash sum of N7, 200.
Adebayo expressed that the defendants armed themselves with guns and other weapons to rob one Ibrahim Azeez and Sanusi Yahaya of cash sum of N5,000 and one IVECO Truck with Reg No: DTN 113 XA, two mobile phones valued N38,000 respectively.
Accordingly, the offence contravened sections: 1(1), (2)(a), (b) and  (6) b of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R12 Vol 24, Laws of Federation, 2004.
Magistrate A. A. Adebayo did not take the plea of the defendants, saying that his court lacks jurisdiction to try armed robbery case.
Adebayo asked the prosecutor to duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
He therefore ordered for the remand of the defendants in Nigerian Correctional custody.
The case was adjourned till April 5, for mention.
