A 32-year-old man, Sunday Ojekale has been remanded in prison by an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly getting married to a second wife and threatening to kill his first wife.
Ojekale was arraigned on Thursday on three-count charge bordering on unlawful marriage, threat to kill and refusal to provide care for the children of his first wife.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, said Ojekale committed the offence  on December 28, 2019 at Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Onitea, Osogbo.
“Having being married to one Funmilayo Oluwaseun Ojekale, and while she is still alive and without the marriage been dissolved or declared void by a court of competent jurisdiction, you (Ojekale) unlawfully married another wife- one Christiana Olujide,” the prosecutor told the court.
Olusegun further alleged that the defendant threatened to kill his first wife and failed to provide necessary things for his children without lawful excuse.
He noted that the offence committed is contrary to sections 86, 339 and 370 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.ll Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charged preferred against him by the police.
The defence counsel, Mr R. I Alebiosu, made an oral bail application assuring the court that Ojekale would to provide reliable sureties.
But Magistrate A. A Adeyeba declined the oral bail application, saying, he should file a formal bail application.
Adeyeba consequently ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ilesha Correctional Facility and adjourned the case till March 23, 2021 for hearing.
