Osun govt to citizens: Receive COVID-19 vaccine, side effects are only temporary

The Osun State Government has asked the people of the state to disregard reports that the COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine is harmful.
This came as the state had commenced the distribution of the vaccine it received from the Federal Government to all the Local Government Areas across the State.
Speaking at the distribution exercise on Wednesday, the Osun Immunization Officer, who is in charge of the vaccine for the State, Mrs Adebola Adeosun said that if there is any side effects that recepients would feel upon adminstration of the vaccine, it would only be temporary.
She said the vaccine was handed over to each Local Government Immunization officer including that of the Modakeke Area office.
She added that the distribution exercise is part of the state government’s efforts to put an end to further spread of the Coronavirus in the state, especially at the grassroot level.
In the company of security escorts, the Local Government Immunization officers assembled at the State Cold Office located within the premises of Ayegbaju International Market, Osogbo, for smooth transportation of the vaccine to their respective Local Government Areas.
Adeosun said the government deemed it fit to take the vaccine to the grassroots after the training of concerned health officers, vacination of frontline health workers and top Government officials at the State level.
She noted that since the State received her consignment of the vaccine, it had been kept in safe custody at the state cold store under the required temperature that would make it efficient and effective.
While advising the people of the State not to loose their guard against COVID-19 spread, Adeosun admonished them to discountenance the negative information making the rounds about the vaccine.
She stressed that any side effect that could be felt after its administration is only temporary.
Also speaking on behalf of others, the Local Government Immunization Officer for Ede-South Local Government, Mrs Khadijat Oredeko said that their roles as immunization officers at the Local Government level is to ensure that every eligible person at the grassroots is vaacinated.
Oredeko explained that the vaccine is to boost the immune system of the people against the coronavirus and urged the people at the grassroots not to entertain any fear in taking it.
