Osun court remands man, 35 for sexually assaulting minor

By Ekene Agbor, Osogbo
A Magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State on Tuesday remanded a 35-year-old man, Femi Michael for allegedly assaulting a minor sexually.
Michael was said to have fingered the baby when he took her from her mother.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode told the court that the accused person committed the offence on September 27,2020  at about 8:00pm at Kolawole Street Esuyale  compound, Osogbo
The prosecutor said the accused person did assault one Rofiyat Akinyemi 5-year-old by indecently removing her pant and inserting his finger into her virginal repeatedly.
He alleged that the offence committed by the accused person is contrary and punishable under section 249(D),359 and 222 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun State 2020
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against him.
Defence Counsel, K E Nwoke applied for the bail of the accused person in most liberal term.
However, the prosecutor opposed the bail application made by the Counsel on the ground that the victim is infant and also that the issue of sexual assault is now rampant in the society
In his ruling, Magistrate Abayomi Ajala sustained the objection raised by the prosecution and ordered the remand of the accused person in Ilesa correctional center.
He thereby adjourned the matter till October 16 for ruling on formal bail application.
