Osun Police drag tenant to court for failing to pay house rent

The Police in Osun on Thursday arraigned a tenant, Bode Odesanmi, before an Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court for failing to pay rent.
The Prosecutor, Asp Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the defendant, aged 32, committed the offence in July, 2020 at Pedro Area, Ile-Ife.
Emmanuel said that the defendant cheated his landlord, Mr Olajide Idowu, by failing to pay his right months rent which totalled N8,000.
He added that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a total break down of law and order when he refused to pay his house rent to his landlord.
According to him, the offence contravened sections:249(d) and 421 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to two-count charge of cheating and breach of peace.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Okoh Wonder, pleaded for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term and pledged that his client would not jump bail, but would provide responsible sureties.
Magistrate A.A. Adebayo granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like amount.
The case was adjourned till February 25 for hearing.
