The Police in Osun State on Tuesday dragged an 18-year-old student of a secondary school, Oduduwa College, Ile-Ife before a Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting his teacher and the security guard of his school.
The accused student, Salami Lateef was said to have stormed his school, beat up his teacher and a security personnel guarding his school on March 1st, 2021.
The Prosecutor, Asp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit the offence.
He added that the defendant threw stones, pebbles and broken glasses of the windows of the school building during the assault.
According to him, the defendant assaulted one Cpl Aderibigbe Emmanuel by beating him up and stoning him when he was performing his legal duty as a member of Nigerian Legion Security outfit guarding the school.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to three-count charge of conspiracy and malicious damage leveled against him.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Nicholas Babatunde, applied for the bail of the defendant in most liberal term and pledged that his client would not jump bail.
Magistrate A. A. Adebayo of Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court granted Lateef bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adebayo added that sureties must swear to affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction, produce three years tax clearance certificate as well as present three recent passport photographs each.
The case was adjourned till March 18, for hearing.
