An Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court in Osun State on Thursday, remanded a 48-year-old man, Saka Moshood, for allegedly armed robbing some villagers of their belongings.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adesina, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 10, 2020 around 5:00am at Odemuyiwa village via Ifetedo, in Ile-Ife.
Adesina said that the defendant conspired with others now at large to commit felony to wit arson and armed robbery.
He explained that Moshood armed himself with guns and other weapons to rob one Fatai Adeyemi of 50 gallons of palm oil.
According to prosecutor, other items that the defendant stole included two bags of cocoa beans, three bags of palm kernel seeds, four goats and hospital equipment, total valued N10 million.
The Prosecutor stated further that the defendant armed himself with gun and dangerous weapons to rob some villagers.
The villagers included Kajola Hammed, Olajide Olalekan,Omoniyi Amos, Tajudeen Saka, Akinola Olawale, Morenikeji Ibrahim and Aderibigbe Rafiu of bags of cocoa beans.
Adesina argued that the defendant willfully and unlawfully set up the dwelling house of Fatai Adeyemi on fire.
He added that the offence contravened sections 1(1), (2), (a), (b), 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Vol. 14, Laws of Federation, 2004.
He also said that the accused person committed other offence that is contrary to and punishable under Sections 443 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The plea of the defendant was not taken because the court lacks jurisdiction to try armed robbery matter.
Magistrate A. A. Adebayo refused the bail of the defendant, and asked the prosecutor to duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
Adebayo ordered for the remand of the defendant in Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Centre pending the legal advice.
The case was adjourned till May 3, for mention.
