NUJ proffers solution to surge in suicide rates among undergraduates

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Osun State has expressed worry over increase in the rates of suicide among youths, especially students of tertiary institutions with a call on concerned stakeholders to rise to the occasion.
The union has however called on authorities of tertiary institutions to resuscitate the career Guidance and Counselling Units in schools and ensure that greater attention is given to students.

This panacea was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the monthly Congress of Osun NUJ held on Thursday in Osogbo.
The communiqué signed by Bukola Elufadejin, the State Secretary of the Union and made available to NEWS BOOM, further charged managements of tertiary institutions to create student-friendly environments.

Recall that some cases of suicide have been reported among undergraduates across the country.
The Union also condemned the recent attack on Koka village in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun state, urging the state government to improve on the security architecture and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book in order to forestall future occurrence.
On the deplorable state of the nation’s economy, the journalists urged the federal government to put in place result – orientated economic policies that will cushion the biting effects of inflation in the country.
