
Osun Govt Reiterates Development Of Grassroot Sports As Torch of Unity Arrives Osogbo

The Governor of Osun State, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has promised the state athletes of full financial backing to participate in the 2022 National Sports Festival holding in Delta State later this month.
The Governor, who was represented by the Special Adviser on Youth and Sports, Aremo Adelabu made this known while receiving the National Sports Festival Torch of Unity in Osogbo, the state capital.
The governor said despite the dwindling economy, Osun athletes would not only participate in the sports festival but would also put up a good performance.
Speaking on the importance of moving the Torch of Unity around, the Governor said, “It must be put on notice that the importance of moving the Torch of Unity round states of the federation is enormous when the Nation is facing serious security challenges, for our country need unity and peace”.
In her remarks, the Deputy Director Sports Festival and Para Sports Development from the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, Chief Amaka Ashiofu, lauded the state government for the warm reception and urged the athletes to make the state proud by winning medals.
Islamiat Yusuf, who spoke on behalf of Osun athletes promised that they were not going to Delta to make up numbers but to win medals.
Among those present at the ceremony were: The General Manager Osun State Sports Council, Mr Rotimi Dunmoye, The acting Permanent Secretary Osun State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mrs Taiwo Oladunjoye, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports Development, Vincent Akinbami, Director of Sports, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr Layi Adesiyan, Director of Coaching and Training, Osun State Sports Council, Mr Demola Daini among others.
