Nigerian ESD Instructor, Lawrita Agbor Sensitises Youths On Violence Prevention Tips During Yuletide

A trained Instructor of Global Empowerment Self Defence (ESD), Lawrita Agbor, has commenced an online training of Nigerians on violence and conflicts prevention formats during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Agbor, who represented Nigeria at the recently held ESD Global Training in Rwanda, gave practical hints and the five (5) Principles of the ESD to social media participants on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on how they should tread cautiously as they visit their loved ones during the yuletide.

The posts monitored by NEWS BOOM revealed that social media community appreciated the tips as some of them described it as timely and impactful considering the vulnerability of many as they visit people including strangers.

Agbor wrote, “It’s the festive period and it’s that time of the year when family visits family, friends go out for a house/night party, ladies visit their partners (aka boyfriends) etc It will be a fun period but as we go about celebrating, let’s also remember that our safety is important.

“Empowerment Self Defence is the only format that enables you to avoid dangerous situations and de-escalate conflicts.

“THESE 5 PRINCIPLES OF EMPOWERMENT SELF-DEFENSE will help you thread cautiously.

𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐊

When you are out (at a house party, private/public places etc) make sure you assess your environment to be sure you are safe and there’s nothing to worry about.

𝐘𝐄𝐋𝐋

This is incredibly important and helpful in avoiding danger. To escape any uncomfortable or dangerous situation, you need your voice to do that by yelling “𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒑 !”,  “𝑵𝒐!!” or “𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒆 !!”. Set your boundaries straight.

𝐑𝐔𝐍

Know when to leave in an uncomfortable or dangerous situation. I always teach to Yell on top of your voice and Run simultaneously.

𝐅𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓

This is the physical resistance where you use the hard part of your body to defend yourself when its necessary and run

When you’ve gone through abuse or any form of violence, make sure you tell a trusted person about your experience. When you do that it helps you heal.

The rate of violence and crazy people in the world is alarming, we need these ESD skill sets as a roadmap to prevent violence.
