The Osun State Police Command has reacted to the violent #EndSARS protest that rocked Osogbo on Saturday.
The Police promised to investigate the alleged attack on the State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola and why the protest took a violent dimension why the governor was addressing the protesters.
When contacted on the telephone, the Police Public Relations Officer of Osun State Police Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola said the Police were on top of the situation.
Opalola could not confirm the casualties at the violent protest ground but said that the development would be investigated.
“The Police are on top of the situation. We will investigate it,” Opalola said.
The State Governor, Gboyega Oyetoa and his convoy were attacked by suspected armed thugs that stormed the EndSARS protest ground when Oyetola was addressing the protesters.
The Governor was said to have escaped death by whiskers as his convoy was severely damaged during the attack.
Hoodlums were said to have shot at the Governor’s convoy and threw pebbles at the government officials that accompanied him to the protest ground.
Scores of yet to be identified protesters were said to have been severely injured as stampede ensued shortly after the governor narrowly left the scene.
Some protesters who sustained severe injuries were said to have been rushed to Asubiaro state hospital for medical attention while two youths were said to have been killed in the stampede.
