By Ekene Agbor, Osogbo
Workers in Osun state Civil service on Monday trooped out and beseiged the convoy of the state Governor, Gboyega Oyetola in appreciation of his recent approval of implementation of the new N30,000 minimum wage for them.
The civil servants, in what they described as “a surprise Thank-You Visit to Governor Adegboyega Oyetola” at the State Secretariat, Abere, Osogbo, appreciated his efforts at seeing to their good welfare in terms of prompt payment of salaries.
According to them, Oyetola had fulfilled his campaign promises to them.
Some of the workers were seen carrying placards with inscriptions such as: “Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, you are a promise keeper”, “Oyetola, labour friendly Governor”, “A new dawn to Osun State workers” among others.
The workers had left their offices and waited for the governor to resume work in his office on Monday before storming out and chanting songs to hail him.
The Governor who stepped out of his vehicle on sighting the jubilant workers, expressed surprise before joining them in a walk to his office where he addressed them.
Oyetola assured them of his continuous prioritisation of their welfare while urging them to be diligent in their duties.
Governor Oyetola had on Friday approved the implementation of the new N30,000 minimum wage for workers in the state. He also lifted the embargo on annual salary increment, promotion and conversion.
