A traditional ruler in Osun State, the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama has flayed some leaders and elders of the North East for allegedly sabotaging the efforts of the Nigeria Army at winning the battle against insurgency in the zone.
For Oba Makama, a state of emergency needed to be declared by President Muhammadu Buhari for the Army to flush out insurgents in the Northeast region once and for all.
Recall that Northern elite had recently thrown their weight behind the call on President Buhari by North-East elders to sack the service chiefs owing to the worsening security situation in the country, especially in the Northeast region.

The North East elders, under the aegis of Coalition of North East Elders for Peace and Development, (CNEEPD) had expressed worries over growing insecurity, saying excuses being tendered by service chiefs were no longer acceptable to them.

Displeased by these elders’ position, Oba Makama, in a statement he issued on Thursday after meeting with leadership of some Civil Society Organisations in Lagos, described the North East leaders’ comment as “negative” adding that it appeared as a sabotage against the efforts of the top brass.
He asked the former Governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Shettima, to call the North East leaders to order saying that “they should show appreciation rather than daily sabotaging security operational efforts.”
“It’s unpatriotic for any groups or the so called North East leaders to use the popular Endsars to blackmail the President in pushing through thier personal unpatriotic agenda. Their continuous hatred for the military leadership came to the fore when they openly condemned the Well planned Operation fire Ball recently declared by the Chief of Army staff.
“No individual or group has the right to question military operations exept the President who is the commander in Chief. If the so-called North East leaders are patriotic as they claimed, we implore them to call on the authorities to declare a State of Emergency and allow the military to clear the insurgents once and for all,” the Oba said.

The monarch called on the Federal lawmakers to creatively find solutions to the problems of insecurity, insurgency and banditry in the country.
He expressed firm belief that a total state of emergency in the Northeast region would eliminate all distractions for the armed forces to quickly put an end to the suffering of the masses in Borno and give the nation the much desired respite from the violent activities of the terrorists.
