Nigeria Police fume as government officials continue to use orderlies as domestic servants

Osun State Police Command has warned government officials against using police orderlies attached to them for domestic duties.
The force expressed anger over rising conversion of its officers as domestic servants by public office holders saying the cops are orderlies meant to protect lives and not to be subjected to carrying out house chores.
A statement by Public Relations Officer of the command, Yemisi Opalola, issued on behalf of the Osun State Commissioner of Police, on Monday read riot act to Police officers who allow themselves to be used as gatemen and handbag, umbrella carriers for government officials.
Opalola asked government officials to employ services of gateman and other domestic servants and desist from using police orderlies.
She said any police personnel found wanting would be sanctioned.
“The Osun State Police Command is miffed with consternation the way and manner these personalities use police orderlies attached to them for domestic duties such as carrying hand bags, umbrellas, opening of gate etc, and wish to state emphatically that the policemen attached to them are meant to protect their lives and property and not serve as domestic servants.
“The Command therefore, warns police officers attached to these officials to stop carrying out or serving purposes other than protecting their principals from security threats, as such behaviour is highly unethical, unprofessional and would attract appropriate sanctions against erring such police personnel.
“These categories of government officials are enjoined to employ the services of domestic staff/Personal Assistants to carry out such services,” the statement read.
