World Sports Journalists’ Day: Osun SWAN celebrates members, gives safety tips
Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Osun State Chapter has appreciated efforts of its members in promoting sporting activities with their daily and weekly reportage and stories.
Osun SWAN, in a statement by its Secretary, Tajudeen Amodu and the Chairman, Timothy Agbor lauded General Managers, Directors General, Editors and Heads of various Television, Radio, Magazine and Newspapers for the opportunity, platforms and column created for sports news and programs on their media houses which have added to the development of sports in Osun.
“We join our colleagues across the world to recognize efforts of our members as we celebrate World Sports Journalists Day today July 2. The power of sports in the unity and development of our state and country has not diminished while our esteem colleagues have added more value to it with fantastic presentation and reportage on Television and Radio, including factual and objective sports news and stories in the dailies.


“Our efforts, apart from promoting all kinds of games from the grassroot have also strengthened the unity, progress and peaceful co-existence of our state and the country at large. We therefore call on our members to strive for further excellence, embark on objective reportage, take care of our health before, during and after a potentially stressful and emotionally exhausting assignment and be security conscious,” concluded the statement.
World Sports Journalists Day is observed every July 2 to celebrate the services of sports journalists and their contributions to the promotion of sports and as the official day to remember services of sports journalists since the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) was established.

The International Sports and Press Association (AIPS) was set up in 1924 when Olympic Games took place in Paris and worked on fortifying the bond, camaraderie, and harmony among the sports columnists across the globe.
