The President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Osun State Chapter, Dr Nathaniel Kehinde Ogungbangbe has hailed the lawmaker representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Senator Ajagunla Olubiyi Fadeyi, for launching a Food subsidy programme for organised labour and other people in his Senatorial District.

Ogungbangbe appreciated the Senator for his efforts at ensuring that members of his district experience reprieve from the economic hardship battling the nation.

He disclosed that the food subsidy programme would afford members of the organised labour in the district the opportunity of buying food items at half of the price of the item.

According to the Osun NULGE President, in a statement by his media aide, Olumide Felix Francis on Monday, “Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District just inaugurated a food subsidy committee today and the aim is good. What he wants to do is to subsidise food items exclusively for organized labour in Osun State across the ten local governments he is representing, that is Osun Central Senatorial District.

“He (Ajagunla) said he is going to pay 50 per cent, that is the half of the total cost of the food items. He said we should identify four food items and what he wants to do is to pay half of the money. Those who have interest in buying will pay half and he will pay half. This is exclusively for organized labour including NLC, NUT, NULGE and so on. He even said those who are in strategic organizations such as civil defence corps, road safety personnel serving in Osun Central Senatorial District will benefit from it.”

Ogungbangbe added that, “Part of what he has done is that he has given bursary to students from Osun Central Senatorial District.

“The goal is that he wants to bring succour to the labour members in Osun Central Senatorial District. If a food item costs N10,000, the buyer will pay N5,000. It is to bring food to the table of Osun civil servants in his district.”

The NULGE President commended the state Governor, Ademola Adeleke and the leadership of the governing Peoples Democratic Party in the state, noting that Governor Adeleke and PDP have been performing “fantastically well” since they came into governance.

He stated that the support Governor Adeleke has been giving to Ajagunla and other lawmakers representing the people of Osun has been bearing great fruits.

Meanwhile, Ajagunla has inaugurated a twelve man committee in his bold step towards addressing the pressing issue of food security and affordability in the senatorial district.

Recognising the importance of ensuring that the citizens of Osun Central have access to affordable and nutritious food, the Vice-Chairman Senate Committee on Communications, Trade and Investments, Senator Ajagunla Olubiyi Fadeyi, assembled a diverse and capable team to spearhead this initiative.
