Mixed feelings as George Floyd’s killer police officer, Derek Chauvin released from jail

Social media users have expressed mixed feelings over the release of Derek Chauvin, the main police officer charged in the killing of African-American, George Floyd, from jail.

Fox News reports that Chauvin, a former Metropolitan officer, was released on Wednesday after posting a $1 million bond.

It could be recalled that the officer was seen in a viral video kneeling on the neck of Floyd before his death.

Floyd’s death had sparked a mass protest across the world with the police and other security operatives joining protesters in condemning the black man’s agonising death.

One of the 3 police officers charged for in Floyd’s death, Thomas Lane, had earlier been freed, according to Fox News.

Chauvin

Lane was one of officers arrested and charged for aiding abetting second degree of murder and manslaughter.

He posted bail of $750,000 and was released from the Hennepin County Jail, with conditions.

Upon Chauvin’s release, there was an uproar on the internet as social media users expressed concerns of possible freedom of the suspect.

While some argued that the global crime would not be swept under carpet, others were of the view that the prosecution of the matter should not be delayed.
